[edit] Active Community Articles[edit] Outside Reports[edit] General Information/HistoryThe National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory [1] is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This Environmental Protection Agency office [2] is where the "EPA fuel economy" label was developed, and for years, where all the data were generated. This location is also the primary location where Federal employees produce regulations governing national vehicle emissions and fuel quality. Recent regulations from this office, including those affecting diesel trucks and off-road diesel equipment, are estimated to prevent thousands of premature deaths annually. This office also was a site of the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) throughout the 1990's, where EPA staff developed a "hydraulic hybrid" drive train technology for cars and trucks. This is also the office that addresses the impact of transportation planning on air quality, runs the National Clean Diesel Campaign and the Smartway Transport Partnership, develops voluntary programs to promote alternative commuting, and implements laws on renewable fuels.
