Focus

When I hear biodiviersity I think tropical, like Costa Rican rain forests, but biodiversity is an important issue in all climates and regions of the planet.

The group focuses on communication, outreach and education about biodiversity issues in the Great Lakes. Their mission:

"To advocate for biodiversity by designing and implementing innovative communication strategies that build and motivate a broad constituency to protect biodiversity."

Located in Madison, Wis.

Time Line

1995 Founded as part of the Consultative Group on Biological Diversity.
1999 Became independent non-profit.
2002 Began to address water protection in Wisconsin.
2004 Began Great Lakes Public Education Initiative to address water issues, biodiversity and non-native species.
