Black Bear SpeaksFrom Great Lakes WikiBlack Bear Speaks - which once called itself "West Michigan's Only Environmental Action & Green Business Blog" - offers commentary on Great Lakes issues. It takes on topics like green business and environmental agency actions. It offers hundreds of links to government and non-profit organizations and also to a site that sells t-shirts with the Black Bear logo on them. Black Bear Speaks began in February 2005 and has an extensive archive of over 500 posts. Jerome Alicki of Grand Rapids, Michigan is the writer/blogger/editor. Jerome is currently the Director of Marketing for Industrial Woodworking Corporation, a carbon neutral, energy efficient furniture manufacturer in Zeeland, MI. He is in the process of launching a line of sustainable contemporary home office furniture under the brand name Knu. Jerome attended the University of Oregon School of Journalism and U.O. Department of Environmental Studies, and briefly did research on salt marsh ecology and wetlands restoration at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. He has worked for a number of non-profit organizations in fundraising, marketing and administration, including: U.O. College of Music, Oregon Bach Festival, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation and the Grand Rapids Community Foundation. Jerome joined Industrial Woodworking Corp in the Spring of 2007, but the Bear continues to rant and rave about the problems and the potential that exist in the Great Lakes bioregion.
