The average weight of the Brown Trout is usually in the range of 2 to 8 pounds. The heaviest recorded Brook Trout weighed 30 pounds and was captured in the early 70’s. The length range is 16-24 inches. It has a dark back. Also, it has silver sides and belly. The Brown Trout originate from Europe. They were brought to the Great Lakes in 1887. They survived in areas that other trout could not. They eat in the evening when it is dark. This may contribute to the ability for the fish to survive. Approximately 1.5 million Brown trout are put into the lake every year. These fish have caused a great diversity to the ecosystem of the lakes. A common sport on the North coast for anglers is surfcasting for brown trout. The main predator to the fish is humans. This is because the fish only eat in the early mornings and at night.
