In one year, airplanes produce more than 600 million tons of carbon dioxide—more carbon dioxide than the annual emissions from the entire continent of Africa. Airplane manufacturers are addressing this issue by increasing the fuel efficiency of their aircraft. New planes are 70 percent more efficient than 40 years ago, and the industry aims for another 50 percent improvement by 2020. Tracy believes the most climate-friendly solution is fewer flights. Lee Tracy inserted lights across this globe to designate the multitude of airports in the world. Woven between the pegs is copper wire that represents one day of air traffic. A layer of exterior enamel whitewash melds the land and sea together. The viewer is encouraged to contemplate the emissions from a day's worth of travel and the environmental harm caused by excessive air travel. Globe Sponsor: EA Logistics Back to the Cool Globes page.
