Wet Weather Demonstration Project

The Rouge River National Wet Weather Demonstration Project, as the name implies, focuses on the problems of combined sewer overflows and runoff that occur during wet weather. It's called a demonstration project because the goal is to come up with a model for dealing with these structural types of pollution.

Partners and funders of this project include the EPA, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Wayne County Department of the Environment.

Friends of the Rouge

Rouge River Restoration Project

The Friends of the Rouge, a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the restoration and stewardship of the Rouge River (Detroit area), is seeking an Assistant Program Manager for the Rouge Education Project. This is a full-time position. Click here for a job description, with contact information. The application deadline is August 3, 2007.

Friends of the Rouge is an outreach and education organization founded in 1986.

The Watch Frogs program is a training provided by MDEQ and FOTR. The program includes trainings to help watershed dwellers identify wetlands and understand the restoration process.

FOTR also does a yearly sampling of insects across many sites on the river called Benthic Monitoring (PDF)

FOTR received an EPA grant to create a Geographic Information System (GIS) database oh habitat along the Rouge to better evaluate clean up progress.

FOTR's yearly Rouge Rescue is a twenty-year tradition.

Recent accomplishments include the Streambank Restoration and Stabilization project in Fairway Park, Birmingham.
